Magnesium is a quiet hero of the natural world and getting enough is essential for maintaining good health, but many people get less than they need in their diet because New Zealand soils are low in magnesium. Capsaicin cream works by temporarily reducing pain signals in the area where it is applied. The active ingredient in capsaicin cream is capsaicin, which is derived from chili peppers.
When you apply capsaicin cream to your skin, it binds to certain receptors called TRPV1 receptors. These receptors are found on nerve endings and are involved in transmitting pain signals to your brain. When capsaicin binds to these receptors, it initially causes a sensation of heat or burning.
This initial heat sensation is followed by a process called desensitization. With continued use of capsaicin cream, the TRPV1 receptors become less sensitive to pain signals. This means that the pain signals from the area where the cream is applied are reduced or blocked from reaching your brain.
Capsaicin cream also helps to deplete a substance called substance P. Substance P is a neuropeptide involved in transmitting pain signals. Capsaicin causes the release and eventual depletion of substance P from nerve endings, further reducing the transmission of pain signals.
Overall, capsaicin cream provides temporary relief from pain by reducing the sensitivity of nerve endings and blocking or reducing the transmission of pain signals. It is commonly used for conditions such as arthritis, muscle strains, and nerve pain.
However, it's important to follow the instructions for use and avoid applying capsaicin cream to broken or irritated skin to prevent excessive irritation or discomfort.
The most common side effect of capsaicin use is a feeling of warmth or a tingling sensation after application. This sensation is related to the action of capsaicin on the skin and is to be expected. This sensation usually diminishes after the first few days of application and in most cases will disappear with time and continued use.
